WINDRUSH DAY CELEBRATION
Saturday 22nd June 2024


Special event with delicious Caribbean food provided by JAMROCK plus music, dancing and incredible live band all happening at Creative Innovation Centre, CICICIC, Memorial Hall, Paul Street, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 3PF. Doors open 7.30pm for 8pm Start. Advance ticket £12. On the door £16. ‘Band With No Name’ presents an awesome line-up of Caribbean and jazz musicians performing an eclectic mix of jazz, reggae, RnB, and blues. Musicians include guitarist Alan Weekes (Jazz Warriors, Jazz Jamaica, Art Blakey, Aswad, Caron Wheeler, Jimmy Cliff); singer and producer Steve Marshall (Lee “Scratch” Perry, Keith Richards, George Clinton); drummer Kenrick Rowe (The Specials, Mighty Diamonds, PJ Harvey, Hugh Masekela, Courtney Pine); and bassist Mikele Montolli (Marshall Allen’s Sun Ra Arkestra, Julie Dexter, Heidi Voegel) plus special guests.

 

CARIBBEAN COOKERY DAY

At St Andrews, Church Hall, St Andrew's Rd, Taunton TA2 7BW. Come and learn how to cook a delicious Caribbean meal from scratch, with Mahalia, from Mahalia’s Kitchen. Whether you are
new to Caribbean cuisine and want to find out more, or you already cook and love Caribbean food and want to brush up on your culinary skills, join us for a fun day of cooking and eating!
Mahalia runs the acclaimed Mahalia’s Kitchen in Frome, serving delicious Guyanese food. Mahalia prides herself on using wholesome natural ingredients to create delicious Caribbean recipes and caters for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. A DAY OF CARIBBEAN DANCE

Penny Marie’s class brings a fusion of Calypso, West African and Afrobeat. Fun dances filled with joy! 11am-2.30pm (incl. 30-minute lunch break) at Creative Innovation Centre, CICCIC, Memorial Hall, Paul Street, Taunton, TA1 3PF. Fee: £5. To secure your place email: admin@stateoftrust.net

inner selves. Her career spans 25 years, touring in the UK and worldwide as a teacher and performer. She co-founded contemporary African dance company Tolo Ko tolo before later founding her own company Freedom Soul Dance.

CARIBBEAN STORY TELLING
Saturday 15th June 2024


From 11am-12 noon at Taunton Library, Paul Street, Taunton TA1 3XZ, Bristol-based singer and storyteller Nia Bimkubwa will be runing a delightful storytelling session for children aged 4-9 years old. ‘Chi Chi Bud Oh Song and Story’ will take you on a journey, giving you a taste of Jamaican folklore culture and how it shaped the lives of Jamaican people who arrived in England during the Windrush Era to build the nation and create change.
